LDDA Downtown Branding Campaign - July 28, 2008

Dear EMERGE Members:

The Lakeland Downtown Development Authority (LDDA) is embarking on a Downtown Branding Campaign. We invite the EMERGE members to participate in a focus group of their choice with the branding firm on Monday, July 28th in City Hall (228 South Massachusetts Avenue), City Commission Conference Room, 3rd floor.

The focus groups are as follows:
10:00 – 10:45 AM - Chamber, LEDC, Lakeland Vision
1:15 – 2:00 PM – Historic Lakeland, Historic Preservation Board, Historic Districts
2:15 – 3:00 PM – Polk Theatre, PMA, Symphony, Lakeland Community Theatre, Platform Florida
4:15 – 5:00 PM – Business owners, business people

The purpose of the focus groups is for the branding firm to interview you, our stakeholders.

“Branding” is more than the creation of a logo and a slogan. We will be creating a positioning statement that will encompass both a “voice” (“What is Downtown Lakeland?” or “What do you want Downtown to be?”) and a “look” (develop the look, a logo, objectives, color standards and ultimately a book of standards that will affect all communications).

The purpose of this project is to establish Downtown Lakeland with a sense of place that will continue to attract and increase our exposure to new businesses, residents and visitors in Downtown Lakeland.

We need your help! If you have any questions, please give Becky or me a call 863-687-8910. I appreciate your help.

Sincerely,
Anne Furr

Get LinkedIn with Emerge Lakeland - July 7, 2008

Are you LinkedIn? Joining LinkedIn is easy and now you can join Emerge Lakeland's LinkedIn Group and connect to other Emerge Lakeland Members. Click or paste the following the link in your web browser to join: http://www.linkedin.com/e/gis/115974/4DC9803702F5

Don't know what LinkedIn is? LinkedIn is a business oriented social networking site. The purpose of the site is to allow registered users to maintain a list of contact details of people they know and trust in business. The people in the list are called Connections. Users can invite anyone (whether a site user or not) to become a connection.
Becoming connected is fast and easy but requires either a preexisting relationship or the intervention of a contact of theirs.

This list of connections can then be used in a number of ways:

* A contact network is built up consisting of their direct connections, the connections of each of their connections (termed second degree connections) and also the connections of second degree connections (termed third degree connections). This can be used to gain an introduction to someone you wish to know through a mutual, trusted contact.
* It can then be used to find jobs, people and business opportunities recommended by someone in one's contact network.
* Employers can list jobs and search for potential candidates.
* Job seekers can review the profile of hiring managers and discover which of their existing contacts can introduce them.
