Job Opening at Alliance for Independence
TITLE: Director of Development
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: President/CEO
Basic Function
Responsible for leading and managing initiatives that cultivate and solicit individual, corporate and foundation gifts, grants, sponsorships and all forms of contributed financial support and or materials for AFI
Assures AFI provides excellent stewardship of donor resources by utilizing the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Bill of Rights & Code of Professional Ethics as a guide
Responsible for preparing and assuring compliance with a departmental budget
Responsible for creating, implementing and managing the annual development plan and strategy for raising the necessary funds required to run the organization and its related activities
•Identify key prospects for major gift solicitations that exceed $10,000
•Develop and implement a planned giving program
•Manage fundraising for major annual events, Wine Festival of Central Florida and Annual Community Dinner
•Develop specialty, social and educational fundraising events that provide corporate and individual partners an opportunity to support the mission through donor-supported activities
•Secure materials and volunteers to aid in any facility improvements
•Write grant proposals and reports to corporate, foundation and government funders that enhance organizational programs and facilities
Develop a strategic public relations plan. Plan should be implemented by effectively describing and promoting AFI activities and services. This position will utilize the following to manage AFI’s public relations needs:
•Maintain relationships with local print, radio and television media partners through press releases, public service announcements and securing as needed media exposure for events
•Provide timely updates about AFI services, activities and upcoming events though various social media outlets
•Maintain all information on the AFI website, including timely updates of pertinent information
•Develop and update brochures and newsletters
•Participate in all opportunities to speak on behalf of AFI, including local civic organization meetings and United Way of Central Florida Annual campaign meetings
Assume other duties as assigned by the President/CEO
Qualifications
1.Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or Finance or other appropriate discipline
2.Interest in promoting the independence and growth of adults with developmental disabilities
3.Demonstrated effectiveness in fundraising and development
4.Demonstrated experience organizing and carrying out large special events
5.Ability to work positively and constructively with a non-profit board of directors, office staff, volunteers and all agency corporate and individual partners
6.Proven management and leadership capabilities
7.High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, team work and attention to detail; high degree of initiative
8.Strong verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and think persuasively
9.Skilled in Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube)
10.Ability to work well with diverse groups of individuals and interest groups
11.Experience in volunteer management
